Porsche Macan (ˈpɔʁʃə mɑˈkan, from Indonesian Macan (mat͡ʃan) — "tiger") is a compact crossover from the German automobile manufacturer Porsche, built on the Audi Q5 platform, and was presented on November 20, 2013, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Initially, the car was intended to be named Porsche Cajun (the word "Cajun" was conceived as an acronym for "Cayenne Junior"). However, in February 2012, it was changed to Porsche Macan: the company decided to use the Indonesian word "macan," meaning "tiger." At the same time, its original Indonesian pronunciation was altered: the letter "c," which in Indonesian sounds like "ch — /tʃ/," was pronounced in the model name more typical for most European languages — as "k — /k/."
