The Siberia Map Project has existed for several years. It all began with a small and not the highest quality, but ambitious map of the surroundings of the city of Omsk. The map was standalone, at a 1:3 scale. Over time, the territories expanded, and we managed to reach the Tyumen and Kurgan regions, reached the border with Kazakhstan, and almost made it to the Novosibirsk region. The map was built using panoramas and gradually gained its own unique objects (over 300 of them!), thanks to the legendary modder Denis Denlog.
At the end of 2019, the map was unable to overcome the transition to DX11 in game version 1.35. Development of the first version was stopped. For a while, an addon for RusMap (SZM Addon) was in development, but it was also completed in the spring of 2020.
On April 13, 2020, the revival of the Siberia Map project was announced, as a successor to the ideas of the first project, but with new features and improved mapping skills.
New SibirMap 2.0:
The sequel, with the number 2 in its name, received a different concept. Now it is a new map, built at the default 1:19 scale instead of the 1:3 scale of the first version.
The advantages of building at the default scale are the ability to connect the map with other mod maps into a single assembly based on the default europe.mbd module, and the speed of developing new territories.
The downside is also obvious—at the default scale, it is impossible to fit all the details and landmarks of the recreated area; it is only possible to convey the atmosphere of those places and certain details. But this is a situation faced by both the developers themselves and other modders.
The map was created with the intention of being included in the classic RM+SR+GS+VOLGA combo. But it is also possible to run it on the standalone siburmap.mbd module.
Otherwise, the project's principles remain unchanged:
- Detailed development of the area;
- Custom objects;
- Construction based on panoramas and satellite images;
- Proper base and map junctions.
-
Satellite base with scaling, if the map is not visible (required, updated).
Thanks to the scale, in theory, it is possible to implement many more kilometers of roads and regions of our country.
In the sequel, it was decided to implement the Southern Urals (Chelyabinsk region, Republic of Bashkortostan, Orenburg region). Why did we start development from here?
