Workshop Maps for Steam

March 8th brought a peculiar gift for the game SpinTires: users found a way to upload maps to the Workshop. Of course, this is unofficial, and there is no guarantee that all uploaded maps won’t be removed in an hour, but for now everything works – installs and plays.

Instructions on how to upload a map to the Steam Workshop:

1. Download STEAMCMD from here, unpack it anywhere, for example to C:\Mods.

2. In the editor, create a new mod, open it in the Workshop, for example http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id.. . We need the mod ID – in this case 641729430. In the _mods folder, look at the name of the folder of the newly created mod – 26400396 (see screenshot).

3. Create a .ZIP archive with your map files (.stg and .dds in the levels folder, your objects, textures, and other files if any). Rename the strings.xml file to 26400396.xml (it must be inside the archive), the archive name must be 26400396.zip in this case.

4. Create an empty folder anywhere, for example C:\Mods\level_test, inside it create a folder named content (resulting in C:\Mods\level_test\content), then copy the previously created archive into it, in our example 26400396.zip.

5. Next, create a map preview by converting the .DDS to a .PNG file named preview.png, the image size is usually 515x512, maximum file size 1023 KB, copy this file to C:\Mods\level_test.

6. Create the content.vdf file:

7. Create the batch file upload.cmd in the folder C:\Mods\level_test:

8. As a result, the folder C:\Mods\level_test should have the following structure:
C:\Mods\level_test
|- content
...|- 26400396.zip
|- content.vdf
|- preview.png
|- upload.cmd

9. Run upload.cmd. If everything is done correctly, a new map will appear in your Workshop items.

Game Development Progress by the Creator and Dedicated Players

Q&A with Pavel Zagrebelny (lead game developer):

Q: How soon can we expect the BAT-M?
A: Unfortunately, don’t expect it any sooner than 4-5 months.

Q: What are you working on now? What’s the priority?
A: A secret project... in terms of new features – I’m considering adding rainbow stains from gasoline, visualization of gasoline in jerrycans, and the ability to skip the night in cabins (making the day-night cycle correspondingly longer).

Q: What do you mean by gasoline visualization?
A: A sloshing liquid visible through the tank. It won’t leak. The idea is to visually emphasize the importance of gasoline.

Q: As I understand it, the BAT-M is probably being created for new features and missions? Am I right? The bucket wasn’t made just for show. Will it be possible to push earth? Or only to fell trees!
A: About pushing earth, I don’t know yet... maybe! But I think it will also have a grapple for the forest, and you’ll be able to load with it instead of a crane.

Tracks in SpinTires

And yet they rotate... I'm talking about the tracks! The tracks in SpinTires, CARL!

It so happened that in the game SpinTires everything is different from the rest: here we have a unique physics engine that allows for the most realistic off-road vehicle movement to date; and the game was essentially created by one person - that's an enormous effort! Unfortunately, the game is now being "polished" by the players themselves, although the developer continues to work, but people are tired of waiting.

Okay, releasing patches that prevent game crashes and add extra features (like with the camera, etc.). But here are the tracks! Just look at them! By the way, the cannon seems to rotate along with the camera.
Of course, this is only a test sample and everything works not quite well: only one track rotates, and its grip on the surface seems to be small. But still, this is a step forward, let's see what happens next and wait for a mod for general testing :)

Latest News from Pavel

- The feature with the fuel level in the tank and barrels is just a simple gimmick;
- At this point, nothing grand is being done, just minor fixes and improvements (1 screenshot);
- Notably, the Watch will now be used, which will be tied to a new gameplay element;
- Expansion of missions is planned – they will not be limited to just logs;
- The last fix, which came out recently, is something Oovee is tinkering with, Pavel knows nothing about it;
- A new project to replace Spintires is coming! And it will surpass it in every way!
- The new project will implement everything that Spintires lacks. Naturally, this new game will have no connection to Oovee in any way, it will have a new name, but the engine will be the same.
