VAZ-2129 is a three-door long-wheelbase version of the Niva SUV, produced in small batches in Togliatti from 1994 to 1996

— The prototype of the Niva with an extended wheelbase was made at AvtoVAZ in 1992, but this vehicle was not planned for mass production
— It was used for running tests of components and units of a prospective minivan
— The long test Niva attracted public interest, and in 1994 AvtoVAZ’s pilot production began small-scale manufacturing of the model,
which received the index VAZ-2129 (sometimes unofficially called "Kedr")
— The three-door SUV received a wheelbase extended by half a meter and an insert in the middle of the body
— The technical "innards" remained the same as the Niva’s: a 1.7-liter gasoline engine (80 hp),
five-speed manual transmission, permanent all-wheel drive with a low gear and inter-axle differential lock
— A small number of vehicles were equipped with 1.6-liter engines
