Mercedes-Benz S-Class (orig. S-Klasse, from German Sonderklasse — "special class") is the flagship series of luxury cars from the German company Mercedes-Benz, a subsidiary of the Daimler AG group. It represents the most significant model lineup in the brand's class hierarchy. The first luxury sedans appeared as early as the 1950s, but the S-Class officially debuted only in 1972. Currently, the series consists of 7 generations: W116, introduced in 1972 and produced until 1980; W126, debuted in 1979; W140, produced from 1991 to 1999; W220, launched in 1998 and ended production in 2005; W221, introduced in 2005 and assembled until 2013 inclusive; W222, debuted in 2013 and produced until 2020; W223, premiered in 2020.
