How to Get Rid of Weeds in FS 22

In this guide, we will cover the basics of weeding and spraying in Farming Simulator 22, and explain how to effectively get rid of weeds in the game. 

Stages of Weed Growth

Let's start with why you need to remove weeds. The fact is, they significantly reduce crop yields. That’s why you need to get rid of them as soon as possible. They absorb sunlight, nutrients, water, and space, which means your crops receive much less of all these, leading to lower yields. 

• You can disable weeds in the game settings, so you won’t have to deal with them at all. This makes the game much easier.
• If you don’t remove weeds, your yield will drop by as much as 20%.

In Farming Simulator 22, there are 3 stages of weed growth. Naturally, weeds are easiest to remove at the first stage. Depending on the growth stage, different equipment will be required to remove the weeds. Also, regardless of the growth stage, you can remove weeds at any time, but the earlier you do it, the better. However, you must remove them before the crop is ready for harvest, or it will be too late. The growth stages/types of weeds are:

• Small weeds. They appear just a few hours after sowing. It’s best to remove them at this stage. You will notice green patches on the soil – these are small weeds, which are the easiest to remove.
• At the second stage, weeds become more noticeable and more abundant.
• At the final stage, weeds grow large and bloom flowers that are easy to distinguish from your crops. Keep in mind, this is your last chance to remove the weeds, or it will be too late.

How to Remove Weeds in FS22

There are several types of equipment you can use to remove weeds: cultivators, rippers/hoeing tools, and sprayers. Each is suited for different weed growth stages. 

• In the "Cultivators" category, you can find devices that help remove small weeds. These devices are excellent for removing small weeds, but there is one downside – they cannot be used for certain crops: corn and potatoes. 
• You can use a hoe to remove medium-sized weeds. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t use this tool to remove weeds at the first growth stage as well. You can also find hoes in the "Cultivators" category. 
• Sprayers are suitable if you didn’t remove weeds at the early growth stages. Using sprayers and herbicide, you can remove the largest weeds. You can buy sprayers in the corresponding category or rent them. Herbicide is purchased in the pallets category. However, keep in mind that sprayers can be used to remove weeds at any growth stage, not just the last one. Sprayers do have some drawbacks: they are quite expensive, and crop yields may slightly decrease due to the use of chemicals.
