On December 5th, the long-awaited expansion for the Euro Truck Simulator 2 map, Euro Truck Simulator 2: Italia, was released, adding a full-fledged Italian region.

By purchasing the Italia DLC, you will be able to drive a tractor-trailer along roads typical of Italy with beautiful landscapes. Test your skills transporting cargo on Italian roads through the Apennines, where you can see incredible scenery, bridges, and tunnels. When you descend from the mountains, you will encounter plains with various agricultural fields, the seaside coast, or wilder plains with a dry climate.

The shape of the Italian peninsula and its geographical location have greatly influenced the placement of cities, which are located close to each other. Each city has its own industries, including the Carrara marble quarries and the largest metallurgical plant in Europe in Taranto.

As you know, the 1.31 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 was recently released, which was warmly received by players, but time goes on and today the staff at SCS Software have begun to talk about the changes players can expect in the ETS 2 1.32 update.

One of the biggest requests from players, expressed in the comments, is the desire to see the old base map territories of the game in an updated form. The developers listened to these requests and some of the studio’s staff are already hard at work updating the base areas of the Euro Truck Simulator 2 map. The developers plan to update the old territories at least to the level of the latest expansions (Italy, France). Updating the old regions requires special care and attention, as there are many different dependencies, so the developers decided to start with the main region of the base map – Germany.

It will not be possible to overhaul the Germany map in a single update, as it is a fairly large territory comparable in scale to any of the individual expansions. Therefore, to avoid delaying the release of updates and expansions already in progress for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 (Baltics and Oregon), the developers decided to update the base map gradually. With each new game update, updated territories will be added. This way, they plan to update the entire old map and then move on to one of the first expansions released for the game that extended the playable area.

As you can see in the comparative screenshots provided (screenshots are shown in pairs – before and after), the developers have significantly reworked the autobahns, and they also plan to seriously overhaul some of the cities, while other settlements will be updated visually only – new textures, new vegetation will be added, and current shortcomings will be removed. What will be presented in the ETS 2 1.32 update will be just the first stage of large-scale changes that will progress from the northern regions of the map to the south. All changes will be available to all ETS 2 game owners completely free in future game updates.

The developers have already hinted that update 1.32 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator will be somewhat special, as it will introduce a long-awaited feature – the ability to purchase semi-trailers as personal property.

Surely every player has already imagined such a system, its functionality, and the level of realism for purchased semi-trailers they dreamed of before; some expect minimal functionality, while others definitely expect maximum realism with a wealth of features. Currently, ETS 2 and ATS already have many different systems running in parallel, occasionally intersecting, while others are tightly dependent on each other. Therefore, when adding the functionality of personal semi-trailers, the developers had to consider all the factors already present in their games and avoid breaking them, so as not to ruin the achievements players have earned over many years. Thus, the introduction of new functionality, such as the ability to own semi-trailers, is quite extensive, but its implementation and testing should not take longer than the interval between two standard game updates. A fairly large team of developers has been working on this functionality for about a year.

The developers have tried to thoroughly work out the foundation, the core, of the personal semi-trailer functionality, but after the launch of update 1.32, some elements will still be unavailable for editing or use alongside this feature. However, don’t worry—these will be aligned and made available in subsequent game updates. The developers at SCS Software hope that update 1.32 will please many players, especially those fans who consider themselves part of the more hardcore community, especially since the semi-trailers you purchase in the game will feature customization and the ability to adjust many elements, similar to how it is done with trucks.

In the new semi-trailer shop section, you will be able to customize and paint your semi-trailer however you like. Various chassis types, container types, and many different paint jobs will be available. You will also be able to fully customize the wheels on your semi-trailer (just like with trucks). Using various paint jobs (in ETS 2), you can create your own semi-trailer paint style that fits the overall style of your company, and your hired drivers will be able to take the semi-trailers you have purchased and use them for cargo deliveries and order fulfillment.

Players will have access to the following types of semi-trailers: refrigerated, insulated, curtain-sided, and tankers. Additionally, in Euro Truck Simulator 2, players will be able to purchase double semi-trailers with different numbers of axles, up to 6-axle double semi-trailers. In American Truck Simulator, players will have access to semi-trailers 28, 45, 48, or 53 feet long, both double and triple (including the Rocky Mountain semi-trailer – availability of which depends on the geographic location of your headquarters to comply with transport restrictions and regulations in various US states). The games will offer various types of semi-trailers with different lengths and configurations, allowing players to transport any type of cargo currently available in the games.

The introduction of the ability to purchase semi-trailers as personal property means mandatory changes to the simulators’ economic components. Players will be able to use direct delivery functionality, allowing them to choose cargo types and kinds without hesitation, while others will be able to select cargo that fits the semi-trailer they previously purchased using the updated freight market and orders. The developers have tried to create as many new visual markers and icons as possible to help navigate the updated freight market pages.

Before the release of update 1.32 and the start of the open beta testing phase, the developers promise to share a lot more new information with us, and they also promise not to delay the transition to open testing.
