MudRunner is quite a technical game, so we thought we’d give you some tips on how to best start completing missions in the game and how to avoid getting stuck in deep mud. This is especially important in multiplayer, as you and three of your friends will be fighting together against harsh conditions to get your job done! Be careful!
Tip 1 - How not to get stuck in the mud!
Getting stuck is a problem! To avoid this, you need to master the gearbox. Know the difference between 1st gear and 1+. 1+ works similarly to 1st gear but gives the vehicle extra RPM. Be careful! At low RPMs, your engine will stall.
In "Simulator (Hardcore)" mode, the differential lock is not available on automatic, so it’s important to shift gears manually!
Tip 2 - RPM control!
Reduce wheel spin by lowering your RPM! Avoid wheel slip to increase your vehicle’s off-road capability! You can adjust RPM by tapping the gear lever (without fully engaging the gear).
Tip 3 - Watch where you go!
Not every surface in MudRunner is the same. Pay close attention to where you’re driving, as different surfaces vary in friction and hardness. The darker the soil, the softer it is. Heavy vehicles benefit from RPM control and large tires, but there’s a risk of getting stuck. Light vehicles perform better on rocky and dry terrain.
Tip 4 - Using the winch!
Every vehicle is equipped with an essential tool – the winch. It’s necessary for pulling vehicles out of tough situations. The winch can be attached to various points on the vehicle and trees.
Tip 5 - Caution is key!
In "Simulator (Hardcore)" mode, the path to your objective will not be displayed while driving. You can take any route you like, but be careful! The world is dangerous, and many hazardous routes are hidden in plain sight. Head to higher ground using a scout vehicle or unlock observation points to better explore the map.
Tip 6 - Keep an eye on your fuel
Tasks can often turn from quick jobs into very long missions, and nothing makes this more stressful than running out of fuel in your vehicle. Make sure you have enough fuel to complete your task, or your job will quickly turn into a rescue mission.
Tip 7 - The right addons!
Make sure you take the right addons: log transport platforms, fuel tanks for carrying fuel, etc.
Tip 8 - Damage from objects!
Vehicles are sturdy, but they can still take damage. Hitting objects while moving can damage your truck, and driving deep into water can cause hydro-lock in the engine.
