Seasons in Farming Simulator 2022

We all know the Seasons mod for FS19, which adds seasonal change mechanics to the game. According to the developers, this system will be automatically integrated into FS22. Don’t worry—if you don’t like seasons, you can easily turn them off in the settings. However, if you decide to play with the setting enabled, be prepared for a more realistic and hardcore experience.

If for some reason you missed the gameplay demonstration at FarmCon, there is a video demo just below. In any case, this is a highly demanded and cool mechanic that adds a lot of interesting features to the game. Let’s take a closer look.

Visual Component

Of course, besides gameplay changes, the seasons will also affect the game’s visual aspect. There are 4 seasons in the game, each with its own visual impact on the maps. Nature looks more natural, there will be snow in winter, and so on. In spring, beautiful bright leaves start to grow on the trees.

In autumn, the entire color palette changes significantly, and then the harsh winter arrives. Many objects are covered with a thick layer of snow, and in some places, you can find ice and icicles. The developers recommend visiting the waterfall first thing in winter.

Gameplay Component

We’ve covered the visuals, now it’s time to look at the gameplay aspect and decide whether to play with seasonal cycles enabled or not. If you want to avoid gameplay changes but still enjoy the visual component, no problem—that can be set in the settings.

In FS22, seasonal cycles are divided by months. A year in the game lasts 12 in-game days, meaning one day equals one month. Yes, you can adjust the time factor yourself and change the length of days.

If you do decide to play with gameplay changes from seasonal cycles, your trusty companion will be the seasonal calendar, which displays useful information about which crops to grow in which seasons and when to harvest them.

For example, new crops like grapes and olives. These two crops need to be planted between March and June. Grape harvesting starts in September and lasts at most until October. Olive harvesting has slightly different timing—it begins in August and lasts one month, until September.

Don’t forget that selling prices and demand are directly determined by the season. That is, at certain times, the harvest will be worth more, and later the price will drop depending on the seasonal cycle and consumer demand.

More Work, More Effort

Besides the seasonal calendar, other factors must be considered. The most obvious example is winter, when snow falls, requiring extra effort to maintain your farm. Snow must be cleared, and that’s the least of your problems. If you run livestock on your farm, you’ll need to prepare your supplies in advance.
