New Crops in Farming Simulator 22

Farming Simulator 22 will offer many more features than FS19. This also applies to crops. Initially, the game will include 3 new types of crops: olives, sorghum, and grapes. Yes, you will be able to grow and sell them, but we have already mentioned that FS22 features production chains, and many crops can be further processed. For example, flour can be turned into bread, and so on. New crops are affected by this as well. Let’s look at each one separately.
Grape Business
Growing grapes is a real pleasure, because despite being a profitable business, if everything is set up correctly, your farm will turn into a beautiful paradise consisting of large rows of grapevines. A grape farm will become the perfect place to relax. Naturally, to achieve such great results, you need to take care of everything, and special agricultural machinery will help you with this.
If you decide to play with the seasonal growth setting – you will definitely need the New Holland Braud 9070L. What is seasonal growth? It’s simple: certain crops produce good fruit in specific seasons, and you will need to monitor these seasons, plant on time, harvest on time, and so on – become a true farmer, experiencing all the challenges and features of this work.
Olive Business
If you’re not particularly keen on the idea of building a huge farm with grapevines, you can plant olive trees and start a truly profitable olive business. Moreover, an olive tree farm looks just as good as a grape farm, and no one forbids you from combining these two crops.
Additionally, the fact that these crops share the same season—from March to June—makes things much easier. The only difference is the harvest time, since olives need to be picked much earlier than grapes—somewhere around September. Undoubtedly, for harvesting olives, the New Holland Braud 9090X will come in handy.
Nutritious Sorghum
The third crop is sorghum. Grow sorghum because this product is consumed in large quantities and is very nutritious. Growing this crop requires a location with a fairly dry climate, which is where the challenges arise.
Production Chains with New Crops
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, production chains (such as making bread from flour) are an important part of FS22, and the new crops will also be part of this.
Here are a few examples. From grapes, you can create dried grapes or delicious sweet juice. Olives are widely used to produce olive oil, and sorghum yields high-quality fine flour. And these are far from all the possibilities of the production chains.

Enhanced Surfaces, Parallax Occlusion

In Farming Simulator 22, surfaces will be implemented much more beautifully and realistically than before. This was announced by the game developers. A lot of work has been done on the graphics component. During the development of GIANTS Engine 9, the Parallax Occlusion system was also introduced. If this option is enabled in the settings, the surface will become much more beautiful, realistic, and dynamic.
The most obvious effect that will appear from enabling this setting is deeper and more detailed tire tracks from your vehicles. Surface detail has been significantly improved. The system itself works in a rather interesting way. First, textures become flat (unnoticeable to the player, of course), reducing the geometric complexity of the 3D model. Then, the visual component of the surface is placed into a "height map," after which the player sees the necessary textures on the screen. In general, the models gain their own "height," depth. When interacting, the surface is reconstructed, and we get those same deep tire tracks.
But why exactly the Parallax Occlusion system? Let's start with the fact that it looks incredibly cool and realistic; playing the game is much more enjoyable when such visual effects are present. The second reason is minimal impact on performance. The thing is, Parallax Occlusion selects its depth and level of detail for each graphics device so that on very weak devices the game does not lag (naturally, if the computer is very old and weak – it’s better to disable this setting). Overall, there should be no FPS drops.
Work on this system is still ongoing, but almost all surfaces will be subject to changes. Meanwhile, we suggest you take a look at the screenshots.

Precision Farming: New DLC for Farming Simulator 22

Great news for those who enjoyed the Precision Farming DLC for Farming Simulator 19. According to the developers, this very DLC will be released for FS 22 as well, and it will be completely free.
First of all, it’s worth noting that in FS 22, precision farming will be much better developed than in the 19th installment. The same features available in FS19 will be present, but they will be greatly improved, and new features will also appear. This project will receive a lot of attention and effort, with new technologies being implemented to simplify your farming work. For example, you will be able to purchase optical sensors and optimize the application of herbicides and fertilizers.
So far, there is very little information about the new features and reworks, but the developers promised to provide more details soon. This DLC for FS19 gathered a huge number of downloads and tons of positive reviews, so it would be extremely foolish to ignore such a great project and not bring it to the new game.
The new DLC is planned to be released not together with the game, but separately, a little later. More specifically – the release is currently planned for around spring 2022. As mentioned above, the DLC will be completely free for game owners and will be available on the following platforms: PC, old and new generation consoles. Let us remind you that the game is set to be released on November 22, 2021.

New Crops in Farming Simulator 22: Video, Details, and Screenshots

We already knew that Farming Simulator 22 would feature new crops: olives, grapes, and sorghum, each with their own production chains and more. However, there wasn’t much information about this until now, but the developers have kept their promise and published more screenshots and details about the crops. If you missed FarmCon and the presentation of the new crops – don’t worry, here’s the video.

Why these three crops specifically
People often ask: why olives, grapes, and sorghum, and not other crops? There are several reasons, and the developers have answered this question. The first and most obvious reason is that these crops require a completely new approach, new machinery, and new gameplay opportunities. This was done to add more gameplay variety to FS22.

The second, no less obvious reason is the production chains, for which grapes and olives are simply perfect, since you can make many things from them. From grapes, you can make raisins or wine, from olives – olive oil, and so on. Many products can be created from these crops.
And what about sorghum? Why did the developers decide to add this crop? It’s quite simple – this crop is ideal for the new Elmcreek map. As we know, this map is inspired by the Midwest, where sorghum is a highly demanded and frequently used crop. It’s a perfect addition to the list of grains in FS.
New machinery for grapes and olives
Grapes and olives are completely new crops in FS that require very careful maintenance. Special machinery is needed. Take grapes as an example. The vines can intertwine, and if you make the wrong move during harvesting, you can cause serious damage and harm the new plants.

For this reason, the new machinery for these crops is quite compact and small. Often, the working width of this machinery is about 1-1.5 meters. You’ll have to get used to working with the new equipment, and you’ll need to be careful – it’s quite a delicate job. However, it’s definitely worth it, and the profits will surely please you.
The sowing and harvesting process
The sowing and harvesting process for the new crops may differ slightly from the usual methods. A new construction mode is used to place grapevines (we will discuss this in upcoming news). You have the opportunity to place entire rows of grapevines on your farm. You can create an incredibly beautiful and unique vineyard.

Next, you’ll need to mulch the area between the vines, then use a cultivator. You will need special new machinery for fertilizing. This will help improve yield. Overall, this process is already standard. Then, a special harvester is used to collect the crop, and only after that do you need to prune the leaves to continue harvesting. By the way, this last step is required only for grapes; it does not apply to other crops.
We have already talked about seasonal growth settings. If you have this setting enabled, you will need to take much better care of the new crops. By the way, grapes and olives can only be planted during a specific season (when seasonal settings are enabled) – from March to June (more precisely, until the end of June).
What to do with the harvested crops
We have covered this multiple times already. Harvesting and selling the crops is not the end – you can go much further. There are special factories for processing the harvest. It all depends on your choice.
You can simply sell the harvest, or turn grapes into grape juice or raisins. But even that’s not the end, because you can then either sell these products or take them to other factories for further production (for example, for making flakes). And there are many such options.
