The long-awaited major update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 – version 1.43 – has finally entered beta testing. This is not yet the full version of the update, but just a few interesting changes, and over time, new features of the upcoming update will become available in the beta test. The developers decided not to release unfinished features even in the beta. Let’s discuss what is available in update 1.43 for ETS 2.
Redesign of Lyon
This was known earlier. The developers previously announced that they wanted to redesign Lyon, and now we can fully see their work. This is not just minor tweaks but a complete remake of the French city. Lyon now looks more beautiful, modern, and realistic. We invite you to take a look at the screenshots to understand what has been changed.
As you can see, the layout of Lyon has been almost completely redesigned. New landmarks have also been added to the city, which are definitely worth visiting, along with new routes, of course.
Besides the standard redesigns, some models have also been improved. For example, old vegetation models like trees and flowers have been significantly enhanced. Changes have been made to road signs, textures are more beautiful, and many other interesting changes have been introduced. Overall, the city of Lyon has become much more realistic and better, and now you will find many interesting things there: from beautiful views to new convenient roads.
Updated Toll Stations
Across Europe, there are special toll stations that provide access to toll roads, which are much better than free roads and less congested. The beta testing already includes more realistic rules for toll roads and toll stations in general. More realistic speed limits, more accurate road signs, and similar improvements.
Minor adjustments have been made to make toll stations much better. However, the developers have not yet managed to add all the changes, and over time, fully redesigned toll stations will become available in the beta test.
New and Redesigned Viewpoints
This was also known earlier, and now there is another reason to visit old locations in Euro Truck Simulator 2, as the game now features 35 new viewpoints, designed very beautifully in a cinematic style. These viewpoints are located in various places: from industrial areas to various landmarks of the current location.
New Roads in Iberia
The Iberia DLC was released back in April, and many players left their feedback and suggestions for improving and expanding this location. The developers decided to add additional content to Iberia with update 1.43, and you can already see a number of changes in the beta test.
New country roads have been added near the highways. You can take these alternative routes while enjoying the views and the new roads. It’s worth visiting highways A-1 and A-2 north of Madrid, where you will find a new country road. Also, south of Portugal, you can find new routes. There are many new roads, and they add variety to the Iberia DLC.
Special Transport Routes + New Missions
There are also new routes for special transport. However, these are not just new roads you can drive on. Each of these routes will have its own missions that you can complete, and there are 8 routes in total. It is on these roads that you can test your endurance and driving skills.
Own Dump Trailers
This is something many have been waiting for. Now, with update 1.43, you will have the opportunity to buy your own dump trailers and customize them as you wish. These are ideal trailers for transporting bulk materials.
You can choose the dump trailer material. There are 2 options: either the body is made of aluminum or entirely of steel. Naturally, there are other configurations: 2 or 3 axles, as well as length: 9 or 10 meters. If you use the short dump trailer option, it is best for transporting heavy bulk materials like sand or gravel. If you prefer the long option, it is better for transporting wheat, barley, and other lighter materials.
Of course, you can customize the appearance of your dump trailers by adding and changing various parts.
New Sounds from the Cabin View
Yes, this is a rather minor but pleasant addition to the game. Previously, the sound in the game was not very realistic, so the sound did not change when viewed from the cabin. Now, when viewed from the cabin, external sounds will sound completely different. The engine sound, wheels, and other noises will now sound different.
Keep in mind that these are just the first developments, and in the future, the developers plan to create different sounds for different trucks depending on the cabin itself. Sounds promising.
SDF Font Support
And the last significant change is the addition of support for SDF fonts, which display equally well at different screen resolutions, perfectly rendering any texts and fonts. For now, you can see the new fonts in the game interface, in some Convoy details, and in the GPS. Additionally, new fonts are used for license plates and some vehicle information panels.
