The release of Farming Simulator 22 is just around the corner. There’s not much time left, and the debates among fans of the series continue. Some believe that FS22 is just FS19 with popular mods. Others are eagerly awaiting the release of this game. Who is right – only time will tell, and all we can do is hope that the game will indeed be interesting. This is more of a conversational article to discuss the changes we would like to see in FS22, our expectations, and those of thousands of other players.
Improved Graphics
Hundreds of players complain specifically about the graphics. We would like to see cool graphics that meet the standards of 2021, as this is a very important part of the game. From our news and articles, you may have seen many times what improved graphics in FS22 look like. However, the developers promised that they will continue working on improving the graphical component up to the release (and possibly after the release as well).
We want to believe that the game will look beautiful. At the very least, better than Farming Simulator 19. Yes, there are various beautiful effects like parallax, improved surfaces, and much more. But what we will actually get is still unknown, since it’s hard to judge from screenshots alone, and it has often happened that developers show one thing in videos and screenshots, but the actual game is quite different.
We won’t speculate on this topic; there’s not much time left. Also, modders haven’t disappeared, and everyone will be able to customize everything as they want.
New Engine
The engine is the most important part of the game. Essentially, it affects absolutely everything. A poor engine can cause optimization problems, leading to lag and similar issues. However, it also directly affects the developers’ ability to add new gameplay (and other) features to the game, as well as the modders’ capabilities. Therefore, the better and more advanced the engine is, the more possibilities modders will have to create cool and high-quality modifications without any restrictions.
We already know that FS22 uses an improved, refined engine from FS19. However, we don’t have concrete information on how extensively it was reworked or what improvements were made. We would really like the engine to be thoroughly developed so that the game is much cooler and we always get interesting and diverse mods.
New Gameplay Features
A huge number of players have complaints specifically about the gameplay aspect of the game. Many believe that Farming Simulator 22 has absolutely nothing new: it’s the same as FS19, just with popular mods added.
In fact, this topic could be debated for a long time. On one hand, the developers really took many popular mods as a basis. We are all familiar with Seasons and Global Company. But is that a bad thing? No! It’s actually very good because they added to the game what many players loved, and with the option to disable them.
It’s important to understand that FS22 is a simulator, a continuation of the popular Farming Simulator series, and it’s very difficult to come up with new gameplay features in a simulator because it essentially already has everything. In
FS19, new features were added gradually: precision farming and so on. In FS22, all of this will be available from the start: you will be able to enable seasonal changes, which adds more realism to your game. You can build your own factories and process your resources into something more valuable, then earn more from it. And that’s really cool, actually.
There are many more gameplay improvements in the game. Just consider the full-fledged beekeeping system and improved animal husbandry system, a separate construction mode, production chains (which we will discuss below), new greenhouses, a realistic soil treatment system, and much more. Yes, there will be plenty to do in the game.
However, the expectations of many players (including ours) have not been fully met. Yes, the gameplay features are cool, but we would like to see more interesting original ideas. Perhaps new features will be released as updates and expansions, like “Precision Farming” for FS19, but so far there is too little information from the developers, and we expect that the changes listed above will not be the end of it.
Production Chains
We have already talked many times about production chains, which actually bring a lot of variety to your game. We even recently published a complete list of initial items that you can produce.
It’s no secret that the developers took this idea from a very popular project – Global Company. On one hand, this is pretty cool, though it’s unclear whether they will develop this idea further or just keep the standard materials and forget about this feature.
If they do it, they should do it well. We would like to have options. For example, we know that raisins can be made from grapes. However, we would like to see many more options. For instance, about 5 production lines for each type of product. This would significantly diversify the game.
Yes, there are quite a few production options, but we would like everything to be included in the project from the start, not like with GlobalCompany – where hundreds of different mods add hundreds of different productions. When everything is gathered in one place, it’s much more convenient. Modders will improve and refine all this anyway; it’s impossible to add every possible production option, but having choices is always good.
Crops
This part really disappointed us, as well as many other players judging by the comments. Farming Simulator 22 has many crops. However, the biggest downside is that 99% of them are simply carried over from previous parts of the game, and there are only 3 new crops: sorghum, olives, and grapes.
This is truly disappointing because in a new game we would like to see at least 10 new crops with new gameplay features (unique care requirements, yields, and so on). However, we were given only 3 crops. Yes, we can create our own vineyard and build a truly beautiful farm. The same goes for olives. But do you think this is enough, considering this is not just a DLC but a completely separate game that has been in development for a long time?
Many considered this to be sloppy work on the part of the developers – and it really is. However, it’s quite possible that new crops will be added by the developers as the game evolves. If that doesn’t happen, modders will take care of it, but still – this leaves an unpleasant aftertaste.
Proper Crossplay
Many players prefer to play Farming Simulator games together with their friends. However, crossplay nowadays is quite rare. Just look at the situation with SnowRunner, where developers spent several months creating crossplay not between different platforms, but between different stores: EGS and Steam.
Yes, Farming Simulator 22 will have crossplay, and it will be very cool: between different stores and platforms – PC (different stores), PlayStation, Xbox, and so on. However, everything sounds great in words, but in practice, developers often deceive players and release unfinished products.
So what do we expect from crossplay in FS22? Our expectations are not high; we just want everything to work. No desynchronization between players, no annoying bugs, and so on. After all, the developers added a very cool character editor and prepared many features for cooperative play.
Fewer Paid Add-ons
This is unavoidable, but among simulators there is often a trend: developers release unfinished products, split the game into parts, and sell them separately. This is very unpleasant because when you pay a full price, like for an AAA project, you expect to get a complete product at least.
Bugs, flaws, and errors can be forgiven, but when developers openly profit off the fans of the series by selling the game in parts – that is unforgivable. We really hope that FS22 will abandon this approach and players will get a finished product right away.
Undoubtedly, expansions will be released because the project needs to be supported somehow. However, they should be true expansions, not cut-out parts of the game.
FS22 Maps
And last but not least – the availability of maps and their good development. For Farming Simulator 19, new maps from modders are released daily. However, not every one of them can compare to the original maps from the developers themselves.
This leads to the following desire. We want to have more maps so that the game itself captivates for a long time without using mods at the start. But it’s not just about quantity, but also quality. We would like each map to have its own interesting features and a high level of detail and overall quality. This is not a difficult task, but so far there is too little information about the maps.
And so our article has come to an end, dear readers. Write in the comments what exactly you expect from FS22 and whether you plan to play this game or prefer FS19. We would be interested to discuss this with you. We look forward to seeing you in the comments!
