Here is the very first lesson on Farming Simulator 22, where we will start a new save and discuss which settings are best for beginners.
Choosing the Game Difficulty
There are 3 difficulty levels in the game. Let's look at them individually:
New Farmer. This is the easiest mode, which beginners should choose. In this difficulty mode, players start with a certain plot of land and equipment. All gameplay elements are set to "easy" difficulty, and profits are much higher. The perfect difficulty for getting acquainted with the basics of the game.Farm-Manager. The second difficulty level, medium. All settings are at a medium difficulty level, but you have starting capital. Ideal conditions for players who have already dealt with the Farming Simulator series.Start From Scratch. This difficulty is designed for players who enjoy real challenges. The game becomes much harder. Profits from various actions are lower, and all settings are at the most realistic difficulty. At the same time, the player starts with a large loan that must be repaid.
As mentioned above, beginners should choose the New Farmer mode – the lowest difficulty level.
Choosing a Map
Having decided on the game difficulty, it's time to choose a map, as the map can also directly affect gameplay. Maps differ not only in appearance but also in field sizes, shapes, and overall terrain. We have already covered these maps. We suggest you familiarize yourself with them in the corresponding articles:
Erlengrat;
Haut-Beyleron;
Elmcreek.
Choosing a map is a personal matter, so decide where you feel most comfortable. By the way, user-created maps for Farming Simulator 22 will soon start appearing, so this list will expand significantly.
Recommended Game Settings
Now let's take a look at the general game settings to customize everything for yourself. The chosen settings depend on your preferences. Let's go through everything step by step. Load your save, go to the "Settings" section, and start configuring:
Time Scale. Your main goal is to complete as many tasks as possible during the day, and you can adjust how long one in-game day lasts. If you can't complete enough work in one day, simply increase the length of the in-game day, and you'll definitely have enough time. The next setting concerns the economy (Economic Difficulty). This setting determines how much money you earn from your actions. If set to easy, you will earn a lot of money from selling crops, production, and more. If you want to progress quickly, set it to Easy. If you prefer to work longer, earn less, and have slower progress, set it to Medium or Hard, but beginners are recommended to choose Easy.Farming Simulator 22 features
AI helpers that can be controlled from a special menu. However, this might be too complicated for beginners, so you can make them almost fully autonomous. If you set AI Worker Refill to Buy, helpers will automatically purchase everything they need to work, reducing micro-management for you.
Seasonal Cycles – a new gameplay feature that was only available as a mod in FS19. Now this feature is included in the game with corresponding settings. If the Seasonal growth setting is enabled, you will need to monitor a special calendar and harvest on time. This setting affects the game not only visually but also in gameplay. Beginners are recommended to disable this setting. By the way, you can adjust the length of each season (from 1 in-game day to 28 days). The shorter the season, the harder the game.Crop Destruction. It’s best to disable this setting if you haven’t played the Farming Simulator series before. If enabled, you can destroy your crops by driving over them. Yes, it’s realistic, but too difficult for beginners.Periodic Plowing adds the need to plow from time to time. A separate indicator will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen showing when it’s time to plow. Again, this might be too complicated for beginners, as there’s a lot to get used to and learn. It’s best to disable this option at first and enable it later when you have more experience.Stones can appear after cultivation or plowing. Therefore, after these procedures, you need to dig up and remove the stones. Again, this is extra work that only complicates things for beginners. It’s better to disable this option right away.The Lime and Weeds option is best left enabled. This is an important part of the gameplay, and we will have separate guides on this topic. Snow. Snow falls in winter, which significantly complicates work since you also need to clear the snow from roads. This is additional work. In Farming Simulator 22, you have the option to disable snow separately and still use seasonal cycles, or disable both together. Or you can keep the snow but disable the gameplay effects of seasonal cycles. The settings are quite extensive, but it’s best to disable all of this at first to understand the basics of the game, and only then dive deeper into the gameplay.
That’s all!
That’s it, these were the main gameplay settings of the game. Everyone can customize the game individually, but it’s better to initially avoid additional features like snow, stones, and seasonal changes to learn the basics of the game, and only then enjoy all the possibilities of Farming Simulator 22!
