ETS 2 Update 1.38

The new 1.38 patch is now available for all Euro Truck Simulator 2 players!

One of the most significant changes in the game, noticeable to absolutely everyone, is the addition of new branded dealer stores for each brand in most major cities across the map.

Also, don’t forget that the city of Lille (France) has been updated, which we wrote about earlier in the news. New roads, road signs, updated buildings, structure, and much more.

We are pleased to introduce SSAO – Screen Space Ambient Occlusion. This graphical option creates shadows in areas where objects meet, giving them a more realistic appearance. It is recommended to use on powerful machines, as weaker PCs may struggle to process shadows and lighting.

The developers also haven’t forgotten about the RGB Color Picker – a color palette that can be conveniently used to customize/paint your trucks. You can select colors using the cursor or by entering the code directly. Along with this, the interface and appearance of the GPS Route Advisor have been updated, with zoom functionality, distance information to waypoints, and much more available.

The chassis painting tool for the DAF XF Tuning Pack and the FH Tuning Pack for Volvo Trucks also received a minor update.

Below is a brief overview of all the updates.

DLC Iberia - Barcelona

Barcelona is an incredibly beautiful place, surrounded on one side by a vast and beautiful sea, and on the other side by mountains. In the midst of all this beauty lies the city center, which is sure to appeal to all tourists and truckers alike. The latter, in addition to picturesque views, will also receive a wide range of orders to Barcelona and back.

As early as 2019, Barcelona attracted 9,500,000 visitors. This city has almost everything you need. Drivers will be able to fulfill contracts from a variety of industries, ranging from car factories to glass factories and contracts for the airport. You will definitely want to return to Barcelona again and again, not only to take on some high-paying contract but also to once more enjoy the rich history and sights of this region.

ETS 2 Update 1.39

The developers of Euro Truck Simulator 2 have completed the open beta test for the new patch version 1.39 and released the patch officially. The update is quite interesting and includes many fixes, improvements, new content, and much more.
Low-loader trailers have been redesigned. They received improved constructions and have been split into two types: now they come in short and extended versions. There is the ability to fully customize them, change colors, add various light sources, and more. This applies not only to the base game but also to add-ons (High Power Cargo Pack, Heavy Cargo Pack, Special Transport, and Schwarzmüller DLC).
The French city of Calais has been revamped and improved. The city is now more realistic and detailed, especially the industrial port. Various objects have been added to the city to give it a new beautiful look and enhance the atmosphere.
New Launcher Design
First of all, the developers updated the game launcher. You can notice how extensively the launcher’s design has been overhauled overall. The main reason for this change was to prepare for upcoming updates that will introduce new features to the game, which will require an improved launcher.
The new launcher is more user-friendly, visually appealing, supports many functions, but most importantly – you can configure the game directly from there without launching the game itself. You can change settings and customize everything to your liking.
Low-loader Trailers
New low-loader trailers will become available in the game, which are perfect for transporting various types of cargo. They support cargo from the Special Transport, Forest Machinery, and Heavy Cargo DLCs. There are only two versions of these trailers: long and short, and they can be customized in various ways. You will be able to change colors, add different parts, and other types of tuning.
Calais Revamp
Calais is a French city available in ETS 2. With this patch, the city will be significantly revamped. In the game, this city is one of the main ones and has been included since the game’s release. It was very important to change the city’s appearance to make it more beautiful, realistic, and modern.
The main changes affected the port of Calais. The port was extensively redesigned. Various objects were added to make the area more lively, beautiful, and realistic. Different types of terminals, gates, and more were added. The port’s entrance and exit were also thoroughly reworked to better match the real-life port of Calais.
Improvements and Fixes
Finally, the patch also addresses the base game itself, its bugs, malfunctions, and shortcomings. The developers fixed some existing bugs in the game, improved certain issues, and importantly – updated the sound.

Update 1.40 and Iberia DLC Release

The developers of Euro Truck Simulator 2 shared information about update 1.40 and the release of a major DLC – Iberia. The developers had grand plans, which were severely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the pandemic, the developers had to work remotely, which not only slowed down the work but also led to certain expenses. However, despite all this, the development team has expanded, and the developers are actively continuing to work on updates. They apparently will not return to their office before spring 2021, but development of updates continues.
The first thing that became known is that work is in full swing on improving the appearance of the games from the ETS2 developers. The graphics will become better, despite the fact that the work is being done remotely, which is not very convenient. The lighting system in the game will undergo very significant changes. The intensity of light sources will correspond to real values. HDR is used for rendering. A number of changes make the graphics in the game more realistic and beautiful, and much of this is achieved thanks to beautiful lighting. Regardless of where you are – the unified system will always provide a stable image.
There is a lot of work because almost everything needs to be reworked: from small stones to huge buildings, trees, vegetation, and more. Improving the quality of graphics in a single update would instantly increase the game's demands on computers. However, the developers are implementing and improving gradually, making the game higher quality without heavily burdening computers.
However, there is also some rather bad news – due to remote work, the developers simply will not be able to complete the development of updates and DLC by the end of this year. Many were expecting the new DLC, but it definitely will not be released this year – the developers announced this. The DLC is so large that working on it was difficult even under normal conditions, although the developers managed it. However, with the transition to remote work, they simply did not meet the deadlines, as there is still a lot of work to do. The Iberia DLC will use the new lighting system.
They managed to release the Colorado DLC using the old lighting system, but Iberia will be perfection. Before the release of major updates, smaller updates will continue to be released. Certain changes will be made not only for ETS2 but also for ATS. Iberia will be the first “test” of new systems and modules, and the games will gradually improve.
The Iberia DLC is not the only update that was postponed. There was a project to rework Germany. They have made significant progress, but they also have to wait until everything is optimized for update 1.40. And when will update 1.40 itself be released – this is already roughly known. The developers want to launch a closed beta test of the new update as early as January 2021 – very soon. Then there will be an open beta test, and when everything is perfect, the update will officially be released in the game.
The developers apologized repeatedly and said that all this is done to avoid releasing a raw product, and in the long term, the delay is even for the better, since there will be more time to test everything, improve it, and finally provide a finished product to the players. The wait is definitely worth it!

Germany Update Announcement

Recently, the developers announced that some updates would be delayed due to the pandemic. Among these updates is the overhaul of Germany. However, despite all the challenges, the team has made significant progress, and we have received screenshots of the revamped Germany.
The main goal of the update is to transform old areas into more beautiful places that more closely resemble real regions of Germany. Old sections have been updated to give German cities a fresh, modern look. Additionally, as previously reported, the lighting system will be completely overhauled, and the screenshots were taken using this new system, so you can already see some of the changes.
The developers are not yet ready to release full details about the update, but some revamped locations are already known. For example, Stuttgart will receive a new airport area, improved and visually appealing. Furthermore, Dortmund has been relocated, as the city was previously on the wrong side of the autobahn.
Moreover, there will be a comprehensive overhaul of all highways, which have not been touched in updates for a long time. Some areas have received new roads thanks to modernization. New intersections and roads will be found in the game world with this update.

DLC Iberia - Toll Roads and Payment Stations

In the upcoming Iberia DLC, players will encounter toll roads. In Portugal and Spain, the highway network is very well developed. Toll roads are rare there, but they do exist. Players will definitely come across such toll highways in the new DLC.

There are also European countries where toll roads are completely normal and such roads are very common. The most vivid example is France. However, toll roads are not necessarily a bad thing, as drivers get the option to use less congested and faster routes. But the biggest downside is the cost, because if you use toll roads several times a day, it can become quite expensive.

In the Iberia DLC, players will encounter various toll road technologies. These include very old technology with toll barriers, as well as completely new technologies with tag tracking.

At the same time, the lighting system shown in the screenshots is still under development, so the final appearance of the game upon the new DLC’s release may differ from what we currently see in the screenshots.
