The developers have released a new 1.40 beta version for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Anyone interested can already test the new features right now.
This version is still in development, so any bugs will be fixed over the next few weeks until the official release. Let’s briefly go over all the updates.

New Visual Lighting System
The biggest change in the patch, noticeable to the naked eye. Even inside the character’s cabin, you will notice the new lighting system, which includes internal HDR components and better adapts to changes in daylight under various weather conditions.
The development team has made numerous changes to all game world objects (including most 2D/3D game assets), textures, and more. All this is to find a balance between visual quality and performance on low-end PCs. We will publish an article later with detailed before-and-after comparisons.
Germany Update
A complete overhaul of all highways and roads in one of the oldest areas of the base game, which has not been updated for a long time.
The areas around Dortmund, Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Duisburg have received not only a full reconstruction of the road network but also several new intersections and roads! The southern part of the Bundesautobahn 7 will also be available in this update.
New Cities in France
Two new cities that will be part of the free Vive La France DLC in the future. 
The first is Bayonne, located in southwestern France. It is the capital of the French Basque Country and an important transport hub for drivers heading to Spain, as it is located near the border.
The second location is the smaller commune of Lac, located in the Pau district. For most, this city will simply be a picturesque landmark. Lac is home to the largest oil refinery in France.

How to Participate in Testing?
If you want to participate in the open beta testing, you can find this version in the public_beta branch on Steam:
Steam → LIBRARY → right-click on Euro Truck Simulator 2 → Properties → Betas tab → public_beta → 1.40. No password required. Wait for the update to download, then launch the game as usual. You can also undo the update the same way and revert to the current official version.

Lunar New Year is now celebrated not only in China but also in many different countries around the world. Every year, the developers added new paint jobs specifically for the Chinese Paint Jobs Pack. However, this year was an exception. They decided to release a completely new DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. 
What does the new DLC consist of? It's simple, the new pack adds 12 skins, all based on zodiac signs (in the Chinese style, consisting of animals). The new paint jobs feature red and gold colors. 
Additionally, with the release of the new DLC, certain changes were made to the Chinese Paint Jobs Pack. Now the Lunar New Year paint jobs have been moved to the new DLC. What's even nicer – owners of the Chinese Paint Jobs Pack DLC can get the new content as a gift, while other users can purchase it for $1.40. 

The developers of Euro Truck Simulator 2 have shared information regarding the Iberia DLC. The region features an extremely diverse landscape, incredible flora, climate, and biomes. After long and diligent work, the designers managed to beautifully recreate the area's vegetation, with all its beauty and variety. 
The Iberian Peninsula has a drier climate than other regions. New grass textures were specially created for this location to beautifully recreate this dry area. While driving through this region, you will experience all the characteristics of a warm climate. Desert materials, special stones, and more have been added.
Additionally, special types of trees were created for the upcoming DLC. A huge amount of work was done. New palms, pines, orange trees, and much more have been added. The vegetation is as diverse as possible.
Many mistakenly believe that Iberia consists entirely of plains. However, this region has very beautiful rocky areas. A great deal of work was also done in this regard, as it was necessary to recreate cliffs, rocks, and soil in various color shades. This is a very colorful peninsula, and you will soon see for yourself. When creating all of the above, the developers used new tools that significantly eased the work of the map designers.
According to the developers, they continue to actively work on the Iberia DLC. New details are being added, and the graphical component is being improved. Once the work is completed, some time will be required for testing. When that time comes, the developers will announce the release date of the long-awaited expansion. 

The development of the Iberia DLC is progressing actively, and the developers are revealing more and more interesting features every day. Recently, they published information regarding the Special Transport DLC. They shared what content will be added to the game and talked about the map expansion.
Let's start with the fact that this update will be the largest map expansion in the entire history of this game. Additionally, the needs of fans who enjoy transporting oversized and heavy cargo will definitely be met. On the new peninsula, you will find a total of 5 routes. These routes are intended for transport missions. Here is the list:

These are not ordinary routes. Each road has its own features and tests the driver’s endurance. Show all your driving skills on the new routes and overcome the challenges. The developers of Euro Truck Simulator 2 approached the development of the Iberia DLC with full responsibility. This responsibility is felt in all aspects of the update, including sound, as some team members visited Spain to record and implement new sound effects. They captured not only the beautiful sounds of the local nature but also the sounds of industry. The developers want to diversify the gaming experience in TruckersMP – they announced this in their news article. The main concept of TruckersMP still revolves around trucks, cargo transportation, and various events. However, the game needs some variety, and everyone has their own views on this matter.
Many players have asked the developers for new vehicles. They often received messages requesting the addition of new cars, and even new buses. There were quite a few such proposals, and the developers began to consider what could be done. 
Additionally, many have written and continue to write about the promised (back in 2019) new mode. According to the creators of TruckersMP, this mode is still frozen, meaning development is paused. However, the mode will not be completely abandoned; everything will be refined to good quality, and then players will be able to enjoy the new mode. When this will happen is unknown.
Over the next few weeks, the developers want to introduce a completely new system that will create unique situations in TruckersMP. What exactly this is and how it will look is still unclear, but it sounds very promising. 
The most interesting part is the vehicles. It was mentioned above that the developers receive many requests to add new vehicles to the game. They started thinking about this and came to a common solution to this issue. 
A new concept was devised. Thus, every 2 weeks the developers will start a vote. During the vote, players will be able to choose the vehicle they want to see in the game. There will be 2 votes in total. Everyone can participate in the first vote, while the second vote is only for people subscribed to them on Patreon (this is paid). These vehicles will be added to the game, and after 2 weeks they will be removed to add new ones chosen through the next vote. A simple but very good concept. Let’s see what this approach will lead to. 
How the voting system works
Let’s look at an example of how the new voting system works. The first vote has already started; it began on March 1. The voting takes place on the developers’ Discord server, although the voting location will change. You can vote there if you have correctly linked your account from the official developers’ website – TruckersMP. If everything is correct, you will gain access to the voting channel. It’s simple. The second vote takes place on Patreon, and only so-called “Patrons,” subscribers who support the developers financially on a monthly basis, can participate.
The vote will close on March 5, 2021. A few days later, the vehicles chosen in the vote will be added to the game. Then, after 7 days, a new vote will begin. When the new vote is completed and the vehicles are ready to be added to the servers, the vehicles from previous votes will be removed and replaced with the new ones. 

Road signs are an integral part of driving. It’s hard to imagine how people would drive without road signs that regulate the flow of traffic. In ETS 2, you have already seen a large number of various signs, but in the Iberia DLC, you will see completely new ones. These signs are often used in Spain and Portugal. 
These signs, as you might expect, are written in languages familiar to the locals: Spanish and Portuguese. These two languages are used for one reason – they are the main languages on the peninsula, which makes it convenient for most residents. There are quite a few new road signs, and you will definitely see them while exploring Iberia. They have been designed with a unique and beautiful style. 
While traveling through Iberia, you may come across signs written in languages unfamiliar to you. In fact, these are Basque and Catalan. These languages are often used in certain regions of Spain. But signs will not only be in these languages. If you see such a sign, there will be another one nearby written in Spanish or Portuguese to make it clearer for the locals.
